The Story Behind Olga Ozerskaya’s Women Archetypes and Its Celebration of Womanhood

Our experiences and stories shape the way we understand ourselves and the world around us. For Olga Ozerskaya, they take form through color, texture, and symbolism, celebrating the strength, complexity, and beauty of women. Her Women Archetypes series is not just a collection of paintings, it’s a deep exploration of feminine identity through art and symbolism. Inspired by Carl Jung’s concept of archetypes, which represent universal patterns of behavior, Olga reimagines them through a modern lens, showing how these roles evolve in contemporary society.
The idea came to her during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the world felt disconnected, and hope was in short supply. She participated in a New York art initiative that aimed to uplift the city’s residents through public art. Her contribution? A striking image of bright yellow hydrangeas with the words Stay Strong is displayed at a Brooklyn bus stop. The piece resonated with many, but one moment stood out, a woman reached out, asking for a custom artwork featuring her favorite flowers and the message Love Always Wins. That request sparked something in Olga. She wondered, what if women could choose flowers that represent their unique beauty and personal journeys?
That single idea turned into Women Archetypes, a series where each artwork reflects a different side of womanhood. Some pieces represent strength and perseverance, while others reflect confidence, wisdom, or grace. Each flower is chosen to capture a feeling or a part of a woman’s journey. Each painting tells a story, not just about femininity, but about the qualities that define us all in different moments of life.
This project is deeply personal for Olga. She believes that every woman has a story to tell, and art provides a way to express it beyond words. “Every woman is unique and beautiful like a flower. And each of us has something to say to share our own life experience with others”. she says. The series invites women to see themselves in these archetypes, to embrace the characteristics that make them who they are, and to feel empowered by their own narrative.
The success of Women Archetypes inspired Olga to take it even further. She is now working on a coffee table book that will showcase the full collection, pairing each piece with short, engaging descriptions of the archetype it represents. The goal is not just to display the artwork but to invite readers to reflect on their own archetypes, their own symbols of strength and beauty. The book will serve as a celebration of femininity, a source of inspiration, and a visual reminder that every woman’s story matters.
Beyond its artistic value, Women Archetypes has created a meaningful dialogue about how women define themselves and each other. At a time when expectations about gender and identity are constantly shifting, this series reminds us that womanhood is not one thing, it is diverse, evolving, and deeply personal. There is no single way to be strong, no singular definition of beauty. Women Archetypes embrace that truth, giving women a space to see themselves, honor their experiences, and share in something universal.
For Olga, the impact of this project goes beyond exhibitions and paintings. She hopes it encourages women to embrace their own stories, to see their unique qualities as strengths, and to know that art can be a powerful tool for self-expression and connection. Whether through a delicate peony, a fierce sunflower, or a timeless rose, every woman has something to say, and through this project, Olga is helping them say it.
